Entry for March 18, 2007 ![]() Misty and the governor
To celebrate Read across America, the fiftieth anniversary of The Cat in the Hat, and Dr. Seuss’s birthday, Misty and I went to The Cleveland Street School in Orange, NJ. Misty, my former Seeing Eye® guide dog candidate turned therapy dog, was happy to see and lick hundreds of children who could not get enough of petting and hugging her. Some of them read to her and some of them listened to me read the Dav Pilkey book, Dogzilla. The older children listened to me talk about being the author of The Wally Morris mystery series, and the younger ones had questions about raising Seeing Eye® puppies. Misty never batted an eyelash when two people, dressed as Thing One and Thing Two walked by, and was unimpressed when an eight foot tall cat in the hat strolled into the library. The highlight of the day for everyone was the visit by Governor Corzine who had also come to read to the children. After he finished reading he came to meet Misty. She was so proud.
